The kettle and mug

We've wanted to do this experiment for a while, as we've had this question a lot over the years, 'Do you have instant?' we've decided (Now that we have some free time) to try going bag-less and see, can you make a real coffee (almost) instantly?

And does this result in a clean cup or gritted teeth?

1. We reasond that the best chance of a short extraction time would be to grind to an Espresso/Turkish grind.

2. That the total volume of water per cup would be 200ml/g. This is to keep it even.

3. Deciding on the weight of the coffee in each cup. Due to some previous tests with loose leaf tea bags one would be 7g and the other would be 14g.

4. A reasonable amount of time to make the coffee is a maximum of 2 minutes.

The results.

As a method it is simple and works well and although there may have been a very fine dryness caused by small particulates in the cup, it wasn't noticeable enough in the cup to ruin it especially compared to instant.

In our opinion the better quantity is 7g as it had a better balance of depth and defined flavour. Although 14g was more intense it lacked the definition in flavour.
